Individual Counseling

Initial Diagnostic Intake: $180 self-pay

Psychotherapy Process Sessions: $150 self-pay

Some insurances accepted (see section below)

Offered in-person (limited slots) and virtual in North Carolina, we co-create custom goals/dreams that support deepening your freedom, life satisfaction, and authentic identity-based pride. See the “About Us” page for further details on the modalities used in individual therapies at The Tenderfire Project. We do not “cure” mental or emotional “problems,” but rather conceptualize how nervous systems lean towards reactions with protective intentions—and stay curious about how to build agency/choice with our reactions.

Group Therapies

$30-60 per group self-pay

Group therapies are opportunities to heal in community. These groups are usually 6-8 weeks in length and focus on either relational, skill, or experience-based topics. We see group therapies as opportunities to witness yourself as both the healing and the healer—to uplift your own wisdoms and learn to integrate others’ perspectives. Connection itself can be part of the healing in group spaces—a primary medicine for many wounds. Every group will require an interview to determine fit and group dynamics. See sections below for more details on past and upcoming groups.

Surgery Letters

$25-75 self-pay

Some insurances accepted (see section below)

Surgery letters are for gender-affirming access to care. Top surgeries often require 1 letter from a medical professional, while bottom surgeries often require 2 letters. These letters last for 1 year, but can be updated if needed. A diagnostic interview is required to support you with surgery preparation, emotional tools for recovery, and overall readiness. We recognize the dangers of gate-keeping and see our role as supporting you to get to readiness for successful surgery, rather than “checking” or “evaluating” you. Some of the language asked throughout the interview may require outdated terms to successfully follow WPATH standards of care (we will provide content warnings beforehand). Proudly, all of the surgery letters provided in our history have been successfully accepted.

What is group therapy?

Group therapy is a form of therapy where the therapist is de-centered and participants become both the learners and teachers. There are different types of group therapies: process groups (focused on relational learning), skills groups (focused on a set of skills), support groups (focused on a common struggle), and more. Groups involve both the content of healing and the experience of connection as healing in itself.

At The Tenderfire Project, we take group safety seriously. Every member will complete a group interview to determine fit and share goals/dreams. The following are previous groups run by The Tenderfire Project:

  • Election Survival Support Group

  • Protest Trauma Support Group

  • Trans-Somatics Pleasure Resourcing Group

  • Community Rest: Sleep Skills Group

  • Summer Body Dysphoria Support Group (specific to trans-folx)

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Skills Group

 FAQs

  • We will then talk about self-pay and sliding scale options—either with me or a trusted colleague referral. You will receive a Good Faith Estimate that will provide rates to expect for the next year.

  • We have a 24-hour cancellation policy to manage schedules effectively. For cancellations or no-shows within this window, we charge a fee of $75. This policy helps us maintain a scheduling system for all our clients. Exceptions may be made depending upon circumstances/context.

  • Some experiences I do not have the training for, while others may hit too close to home for me to provide a holding space. I do not currently work with children/teens, folx facing active suicidality or disordered eating, psychosis, personality disorders, or folx who have caused intimate partner harm. If you are facing these struggles, feel free to reach out for referrals!

  • No, I am not able to prescribe any medications. If you are interested in medication management and would like to be evaluated for psychiatric medication, let me know and we can look for affirming physicians/psychiatrists together.
